MultiDRM for live channels: Widevine, PlayReady and FairPlay.
Rights holders increasingly make DRM a condition of carriage, and running three licence servers is not a project most operators want. We package every adaptive channel for all three systems, issue the licences ourselves, and price it per channel per month; there is no licence server to run and no per-device fees to negotiate.
What we package and who licenses it
Each adaptive channel is encrypted once and packaged twice: CENC for Widevine and PlayReady, CBCS for FairPlay, from the same CMAF segments. Keys rotate on a schedule you choose, and the licence server is ours, so there is no third-party contract in the middle.
Your player asks our licence endpoint with the token your platform already issues to its subscribers. If you prefer to keep entitlement decisions in your own system, we call your authorisation endpoint before issuing a licence. The DRM stays with us, and the subscriber logic stays with you.
| Systems | Widevine (L1/L3), PlayReady (SL2000/SL3000), FairPlay Streaming |
|---|---|
| Encryption | CENC (cbc1/cenc) and CBCS from one CMAF packaging pass |
| Key rotation | Per channel, per period, configurable |
| Licence server | Ours, with your token or a callback to your entitlement API |
| Policies | Per device type, per territory, output protection and HDCP rules |
| Availability | Widevine + PlayReady + FairPlay, on the adaptive HLS and MPEG-DASH delivery line |
Where it matters commercially
Studio and sports rights holders often require DRM plus output protection before they will allow a channel on a platform at all, and a rights review is faster when the answer is a named, studio-approved implementation rather than a home-built one.
It also settles the device question: the same channel plays on a browser, an Android TV box, an iPhone and a Samsung TV without three separate integrations, which is why the white-label apps take it as standard.
- Studio-approved implementation of all three systems
- Output protection and HDCP policy per device class
- Geo policy enforced at licence issue, not just at the manifest
- Concurrency and device-count rules where your contract needs them
- Per-channel enablement, so you pay for the channels that require it
How to order it
MultiDRM is an add-on on the adaptive HLS / DASH line at EUR 19 per channel per month, selectable in the order wizard once HLS is chosen. It follows the same volume and term discounts as the delivery line, and it can be added to channels already running without re-provisioning them.
On the SRT line there is nothing to encrypt at the client end: the transport itself is AES-256 encrypted between us and your headend, and what you do downstream is your platform’s concern.
Questions we get
Can we use our own licence server?
Yes. We can package for your keys and let your server issue the licences; in that case the add-on covers packaging only and we quote it accordingly.
Does DRM add latency?
Not measurably to the stream. Licence acquisition adds one round trip at playback start, which is why our licence endpoints sit at the same core sites as the delivery.
Do we need DRM on every channel?
No, and most operators do not. It is enabled per channel, so the channels whose rights holders require it can have it while the rest stay on clear adaptive streams.
What about devices without Widevine L1?
Policies are per device class: an L3 device can be limited to SD, or refused, depending on what the rights holder requires. That rule lives with us, so your player does not have to implement it.
